OLD TESTAMENT MIRACLES

Miracles in the Old Testament show God’s creation and interaction with his creation. God’s miracles also provide clear and convincing evidence of God’s existence, love, commands, judgement, and plan for spiritual redemption of humans, who God made in God’s image.

God creates the heavens, earth, and life (Genesis 1:1–2:25).

Adam and Eve tempted by Satan

Satan the serpent tempts and entices Adam and Eve to disobey God by eating the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3:1-7).

God stations mighty angelic beings to guard the way to the Tree of Life (Genesis 3:24).

God has a close relationship with Enoch and takes him to heaven before he dies (Genesis 5:24).

God instructs Noah to build the ark, sends the animals, and causes the Flood (Genesis 6:1-8:22).

God multiplies the common language and scatters the people at Babel all over the earth (Genesis 11:1–9).

God changes Moses’ rod into a serpent to prove that God appeared to him (Exodus 4:3–5, 30-31).

God makes Moses’ hand leprous as a second sign that God appeared to him (Exodus 4:6–9, 30-31).

First Plague. God turns the Nile River to blood (Exodus 7:20–25).

Second Plague. God makes frogs cover the whole land of Egypt (Exodus 8:1–15).

Third Plague. God makes gnats infest the entire land of Egypt and their animals (Exodus 8:16–19).

Fourth Plague. God sends a swarm of flies throughout Egypt (Exodus 8:20–24).

Fifth Plague. God sends a plague to destroy the livestock of the Egyptians (Exodus 9:1–7).

Sixth Plague. God takes soot from a furnace and made it spread as a plague of boils on the Egyptians and animals (Exodus 9:8–12).

Seventh Plague. God sends a hailstorm that kills the Egyptians’ livestock and servants in the field (Exodus 9:18–24).

Eighth Plague. God covers all of Egypt with locusts (Exodus 10:1–20).

Ninth Plague. God sends darkness throughout Egypt for three days (Exodus 10:21–23).

Tenth Plague. God passes through Egypt and destroys the first-born in Egypt (Exodus 12:29–30).

God guides Israel by a pillar of cloud during the day and by fire at night (Exodus 13:21–22, 14:19–20).

God parts the Red Sea in Exodus.

God makes Aaron’s staff bud with blossoms as a sign of the end of murmuring and complaining against Moses, Aaron, and God (Numbers 17:1-13).

God makes water gush from the rock in Kadesh after Moses struck the rock instead of commanding the rock to gush water as God had instructed. God does not allow Moses and Aaron to enter the Promised Land because they did not trust God (Numbers 20:6–13).

God orders Moses to make a snake out of bronze to heal those who had been bitten by poisonous snakes after they repented and looked at the bronze snake (Numbers 21:6-9).

God causes Balaam’s donkey to speak to him to warn him to avoid being killed by the angel of the LORD (Numbers 22:21–35).

God parts the Jordan River and allowed the Israelites to cross over near Jericho (Joshua 3:14–17).

God makes the sun and moon stand still as Israel defeats the Amorites (Joshua 10:12–14).

God proves to Gideon that God would use Gideon to rescue Israel by putting dew on Gideon’s fleece and then makes the fleece dry when the ground was covered with dew (Judges. 6:37–40).

Manoah and his wife (Samson’s parents) make an offering and watch God make the angel of the Lord ascend in flame up towards the sky (Judges 13:20).

God kills 70 men of the men from Beth-shemesh because they looked into the Ark of the LORD (1 Samuel 6:19–20).

God answers Samuel’s call to God and sends thunder and rain during the wheat harvest time when it normally did not rain (1 Samuel 12:18).

David kills Goliath with a sling and a stone in the name of the LORD after David recalls how the LORD saved him from the claws of a lion and a bear (1 Samuel 17:32-51).

God kills Uzzah because he put his hand on the Ark of God against God’s command not to touch the Ark (2 Samuel 6:6–7).

God withers and restores King Jeroboam’s hand (1 Kings 13:4–6).

God cracks the alter in Bethel and ashes pour out (1 Kings 13:5).

God empowers Elijah to order no dew or rain for the next few years unless he gave an order for dew or rain (1 Kings 17:1; James 5:17).

God sends ravens to bring bread and meat to Elijah each morning and evening (1 Kings 17:4–6).

God empowers Elijah to increase the widow’s oil and meal (1 Kings 17:12–17).

God empowers Elijah to raise the widow’s son from the dead (1 Kings 17:17–23).

God responds to Elijah and consumes by fire the sacrifice of the false prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:38).

God answers Elijah’s prayer for rain (1 Kings 18:41).

God answers Elijah’s command for fire that kills the army captain and 50 men (2 Kings 1:9–12).

God strikes Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, with leprosy because he accepted gifts on behalf of Elisha and hid them in the house (2 Kings 5:27).

God heals King Hezekiah from a deadly illness after he sincerely prayed and tried to be faithful to God and please God (2 Kings 20:1-7).

God makes the shadow on the sundial move 10 steps backward as a sign that God would heal King Hezekiah (2 Kings 20:8-11).

God afflicts King Uzziah with leprosy because he became proud and sinned against God by entering the sanctuary of the LORD’s Temple and personally burned incense on the alter when God only allowed the priests to offer incense in the LORD’s Temple (2 Chronicles 26:16–21).

God protects Daniel’s three friends from burning in the fiery furnace after they refused to serve King Nebuchadnezzar’s gods or worship the gold statue he set up (Daniel 3:19–27).

God writes on the wall and Daniel interprets the writing for King Balshazzar that God found that the king failed God’s test and his kingdom would end immediately and be given to King Darius the Mede. That night King Balshazzar was killed by King Darius’ soldiers (Daniel 5:1-31).

God protects Daniel from being eaten in the lion’s den after Daniel prayed to God and refused to pray to King Darius (Daniel 6:6–23).

God preserves Jonah in the belly of great fish for 3 days. The fish spits Jonah out after Jonah repented from running from God and cried out in prayer to God that he would fulfill his vows (Jonah 2:1–10).
